Verbena bonariensis, a lovely reseeding, annual produces lavender-colored flower clusters atop tall wirey stems. It is a butterfly magnet.

Seed collection is easy. Allow the flowers to fade naturally, the seeds will develop atop the stem, when mature the cluster turns paper-bag brown. Remove the seed cluster and allow it to dry for about a week before crumbling. Seeds are quite small and light tan. Seed and chaff are traded together.

How do you store seeds? There's lots of wonderful ways!

Verbena bonariensis is grown as an annual in zones Six and colder. In zone Seven it can winter-over with protection, good drainage is a must. In zones Eight and warmer, Verbena bonariensis is considered to be perennial.

A CD Rom storage unit for the wall holds packs of seeds inside vinyl pockets.
