WORKSHOP #1: Social Media, Information Management Tools and Your Institution by Peter Fernandez, University of Tennessee, Knoxville

This workshop will review some of the most prominent social media technologies available, such as Facebook and Twitter, and will help you explore how you can utilize them to accomplish your goals. The workshop will also cover free tools like Zotero, Evernote, and Digsby that can function as standalone products or help generate and manage content for your social media presence.

We will evaluate these technologies with regard to their sustainability, privacy implications and their funding models.

WORKSHOP #2: Digital Projects, If It's Digital and in Google - Then They will Come by Dr. Rob McGeachin, Texas A&M University Libraries

This workshop will review the basics of planning and implementing a legacy print digitization project using the Texas FARMER project of the Texas A&M University Libraries as the primary example. Progressing from loading single works at a time into the electronic repository to our current batch loading techniques, the workflows are continuing to evolve. It will include an introduction to the usage of PDF/Archival (PDF/A) files as one of the emerging preservation techniques for digital works.
